The contract for the willow plot land at Whittondean ran out at the end of July. A new plot has been commissioned and is up and running at Chester Hope. This plot is located close to Ryehill up the Coquet Valley from Rothbury.
Following the removal of all of the willow stools at Whittondean, the land has been cultivated and reseeded. See attached photo. The final work involved the removal of the perimeter fencing.
There are some 5,000 willow cuttings planted at Chester Hope. The varieties planted are mostly slender basketry willow. The cuttings are now well established as can be seen in the attached photo taken from the west end of the plot.
A range of shorter length willow bundles are currently on stock at the plot and are now available for purchase.
