Border Union Agricultural Show, Kelso Friday 28th & Saturday 29th July 2023

The Northumbria Basketry Group stall at BUAS displayed the skill and diversity of the work done within our group. 

It was staffed by enthusiastic members, happy to chat with visitors about NBG and basketry in general. We also offered have-a-go opportunities, and many people, from very young to not so young, went away delighted with their bird feeder or fish. At the same time, weaving demonstrations were taking place from log baskets to screens via a Zarzo basket, brooms and snails.

The have-a-go and demonstrations took place under our new gazebos, which were absolutely essential during the downpour on Saturday afternoon. Other than that, the weather was kind, although a little blowy. The activity under the gazebos drew attention from passerbys and led them neatly to the marquee.

Altogether, an excellent two days raising awareness of basketry in our area.
