On the 8th and 20th of July, the Whitley Chapel Basketry Group ran two very successful one-day beginner workshops making a traditional potato skib. The workshops, held in the village hall, were attended by thirteen people over the two days. In the morning, the group focused on weaving the base, leaving the afternoon to weave the sides and border.
The workshops were arranged in response to an overwhelming interest shown at the basketry groups Slaley Show stand in August last year, where fellow weaver Jean Tinsley demonstrated making a basket. Jean, who was the workshop tutor, took up basket weaving after visiting an NBG stand at the Thropton show some nine years ago and has been willow weaving ever since.
Loved the day and so proud of my basket! (SR)
