This striking willow sculpture made by Anna Turnbull is for a client with echoes of his granddaughters and also his profession - bookbinding .
Anna started with drawings, measurements and then a metal skeleton made by her husband, Richard.
The sequence of construction involved using buff willow rods for the head and legs. Then a hoop around her legs simulated the hem of her skirt, and a dress was woven from there . Next came her jacket. Then her hair, shoes, and the book.
Finally, an old wooden stool was stripped of its paint, and Anna oiled the whole thing with a couple of coats of OSMO.
A remarkably challenging piece!
