Supporting the RNLI
The sun was shining on Bamburgh on Sunday 11 April. Northumbria Basketry Group members spent the day supporting the RNLI running an Open Event for members of the public visiting the Grace Darling Museum.Children and adults of all ages made simple baskets and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Feedback also suggests that there was a lot of learning going on. In listing things that she had learned, one young participant wrote: "The ends of the willow stick are called a "butt" and a "tip". You use your thumb to guide the stick. You have two types of stick - thicker ones for the stakes and thinner ones for the weaving." Click on an image for more information.
