This is one of two two-day Autumn courses with Karla Pearce, a professional basket maker from the Borders. You will create a beautiful basket in a friendly, supportive environment. Learn how to weave a round 3x3 base, upstake, and weave up the sides of your basket, turn down the uprights to make a border and attach your choice of handle. 

The tutor will provide examples of baskets you could make along with information on safe working practices and use of basketry tools, various weaving techniques, buff and brown willow and its preparation, the choice of thicknesses of willow for the different parts of the basket, and how colour can add to your design. You will be offered a choice of borders and weaves. Elaine will be there to assist and make sure the day goes smoothly.

There will be a maximum of nine participants, and the course will run from 9.30 am until approximately 4:30 pm each day. 

The cost is £110 for the two days, and it includes all materials, tools, and refreshments. However, you must bring your own lunch.

The Northumbria Basketry Group supports this course. Each participant will receive a free copy of Willow Basketry: A How-To Guide by Jonathan Ridgeon.
