description

This square basket workshop is suitable for those with a little more experience in working with willow. The base is worked from a prepared cleft oak frame that Phil prepares in advance.

Phil will guide you through the various stages and weaving patterns for different parts of the basket - the base weave across the frame, securely adding the uprights for the sides, and the side weaves. Next, the border has some specific steps, including how to master the tricky corners, and Phil demonstrates this clearly, to make sure everyone grasps this final technique correctly to finish the basket. Finally, a handle completes the basket.

You will gain an understanding of how willow behaves as you weave, and after the final trimming up, you will have a useful basket you will be proud to take home.

All tools are provided for the workshop, although you can bring your own if you prefer. Please mark them, so they do not get mixed up.

The fee of £135 includes refreshments and vegetarian lunches with home-baking. In addition, there is a separate materials charge of £20 payable to Phil on the day. Eight students maximum.

The workshop takes place on the upper floor of a renovated Dales barn with original beams, excellent facilities, and fabulous views. Broadrake is just off the B6255 Ingleton to Hawes road in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, between Ingleborough and Whernside.

We can offer good quality bunk barn accommodation on the ground floor, with single/twin occupancy—£ 20 per night, to include full bedding and DIY breakfast supplies.
