The recent warm weather and spells of heavy rain have resulted in rapid growth of the 11 varieties of basketry willow at Whittondean. Most of the growth has been upwards but the Norbury cuttings display the usual tendancy for horizontal growth in the first year - see image.

It appears that the cuttings have benefitted from the early planting and it will be interesting to compare the growth rates of this open south facing site with the growth rates at Whitton in 2010.
